  • Alignment Dowels & Bushings
SPIROL® Series DB100 Dowel Bushings, Series SD200 Spring Alignment Dowels, and Series GD100 Ground Hollow Dowels are used to locate components with respect to each other....

  • SPIROL’s roll formed Alignment Dowels & Bushings are designed to meet one or more of the following objectives:

    • Align / Locate mating components,
    • Eliminate drilling of a separate bolt hole,
    • Protect bolts from shear loading, and/or
    • Maintain joint integrity

SPIROL offers (3) different options for Alignment Dowels / Bushings - each one designed to simplify the assembly process and reduce the overall cost of manufacturing.

The spring-type design of the DB100 Dowel Bushings and SD200 Spring Dowels offers substantial cost savings over inflexible alignment options as the flexible diameter allows for a larger hole tolerance and thus eliminates the need to precision hone the hole. In addition, the hollow design permits a fastening screw or bolt to pass through the inside diameter eliminating the need to drill a separate hole.

When more exacting alignment is required, a precision-honed hole is required along with a precision Ground Dowel.  SPIROL's GD100 Ground Hollow Dowels are designed to be direct replacements for standard Ground Solid Dowels per ISO 8734.  GD100 Ground Hollow Dowels meet precision alignment requirements with significant weight savings over a solid equivalent.

If installation equipment is required, SPIROL also offers a comprehensive line of Installation Equipment from manual to fully automatic modules, with or without out fixturing, to support your assembly requirements.

  • Coiled Spring Pins
Easily recognized by its unique 2 1/4 coil cross-section, Coiled Pins are self-retaining fasteners achieved by radial tension applied against the hole wall, and they are the only press-fit pins designed to remain flexible after installation....

  • SPIROL invented the Coiled Spring Pin and its production technology in 1948. Since that time, the Coiled Pin has proven to be the most versatile Spring Pin in the industry. More than fasteners, SPIROL Coiled Pins are shock-absorbing elements that are integral, active components of a total assembly. Coiled Spring Pins are available in three duties, light duty, standard duty and heavy duty, to enable the designer to select the right combination of strength, flexibility and diameter to suit different host materials, strength requirements and loading types. SPIROL Coiled Pins typically offer the lowest installed cost in most applications.

Otherwise known as Spiral Pins, Coil Pins, Roll Pins or simply Spring Pins, SPIROL offers Coiled Spring Pins in both inch and metric sizes in a variety of materials and finishes from 0.8mm / .031” (1/32) in diameter up to 20mm / .750” (3/4) in diameter. Select from our expansive standard offering, or take advantage of our complimentary Application Engineering support and allow us to work with you to help determine the most appropriate Coiled Pin for your specific application and assembly needs!

  • Compression Limiters
Compression Limiters are designed to protect the plastic components of an assembly from the compressive loads generated when a bolt is tightened to its recommended tightening torque, assuring the joint remains intact throughout the life of the product....

  • SPIROL offers a range of both formed and machined Compression Limiters including split seam, molded in, oval and solid wall designs. Each type of Compression Limiter is designed to accommodate different compressive loads, positional tolerances and installation methods. All formed Compression Limiters, except the Series CL220, are zinc plated and have a supplementary coating of trivalent passivation and an organic sealant for corrosion resistance. This finish provides 144 hours to white corrosion, and 384 hours to red corrosion when salt spray tested in accordance with ASTM B117. SPIROL’s Series CL220 Compression Limiters are coated with ArmorGalv®, a zinc alloy thermal diffusion coating that provides a minimum of 1000 hours corrosion resistance to red rust. Machined Limiters are manufactured from aluminum and brass, both of which have inherent corrosion resistant properties and thus do not require supplementary finishing.

The clearance between the bolt and the inside diameter of the installed Compression Limiter is adequate to meet normal misalignment. The Compression Limiter’s length should be designed to ensure it will bottom out against the surface under the bolt’s head and mating component. The appropriate length and length tolerance is application dependent. While the standard tolerance is sufficient to meet most needs, verification is recommended. SPIROL‘s Applications Engineers are available to assist in this process. If it is determined that a special Compression Limiter is required, then a documented recommendation will be provided.

It is imperative that the proper Compression Limiter be designed into each application based on the specific requirements for that assembly, and that the plastic host be designed appropriately to ensure that bolted joint integrity is maintained throughout the life of the assembly. SPIROL’s Application Engineers are available to work with you to determine the most appropriate Compression Limiter for your application.

  • Disc Springs
Disc Springs are conically-shaped, washer-type components designed to be axially loaded. Based on the standardized calculations of DIN EN 16984, the deflection for a given load is predictable and the minimum life cycle can be determined....

  • Disc Springs are often incorrectly referred to as belleville disc springs, belleville springs, belleville washers or simply conical washers.  Disc Springs are unique and differ from other types of springs in that the force/deflection curves of Disc Springs are consistent and repeatable, and the minimum fatigue life can be reliably determined (per the standardized calculations of DIN EN 16984 (formerly DIN 2092)). Disc Springs can be statically loaded either continuously or intermittently, or dynamically subjected to continuous load cycling. They can be used singly or in multiples stacked parallel, in series or in a combination thereof to achieve the desired force-deflection characteristic.

Disc Springs are preferred over other types of springs (such as coil springs, belleville washers, belleville springs and conical washers) when used in critical applications such as safety valves, clutch & brake mechanisms for elevators, and supports for industrial pipe systems due to their predictability, reliability and unparalleled fatigue life.

The advantages of Disc Springs compared to other types of springs include the following:

    • A wide range of load/deflection characteristics
    • High load capacity with small deflection
    • Space savings – high load to size ratio
    • Consistent performance under design loads
    • Longer fatigue life
    • Inherent dampening especially with parallel stacking
    • Flexibility in stack arrangement to meet your application requirements

SPIROL offers the full range of DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093) Group 1 and 2 Disc Springs in Series A, B, and C.  In addition to the DIN specified sizes, SPIROL stocks its own standard size range in outside diameters from 8mm to 200mm in order to meet the diverse needs of its customers. SPIROL standard Disc Springs meet all material, dimensional tolerance, and quality specifications as laid out in DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093) but in diameter and thickness combinations that are not included in the DIN standard.

SPIROL also offers a line of austenitic Stainless Steel Disc Springs.

SPIROL supplies single Disc Springs, as well as Pre-stacked Disc Springs in custom configurations, packaged in shrink wrap with a perforated tab for easy of assembly.

Select from our expansive standard offering, or take advantage of our complimentary Application Engineering support and allow us to work with you to help determine the most appropriate Disc Spring or Disc Spring Stack for your specific application and assembly needs!

  • Inserts for Plastics
SPIROL offers Heat/Ultrasonic, Molded-In, Press-In, and Self-Tapping Inserts. Our standard Inserts have been designed for a broad set of plastic applications....

  • Threaded Inserts for Plastics provide reusable threads and preserve the bolted joint integrity for the life of the application. Since an Insert is generally twice the diameter of a screw, the shear surface is increased fourfold, thereby significantly enhancing the load carrying ability of the bolted plastic joint as compared to one without the use of a metal Threaded Insert. Threaded Inserts for Plastics also allow the appropriate installation torque to be applied to the screw without stripping the threads that would otherwise occur if the screw was installed directly into the plastic. In addition, the metal thread of an Insert provides permanent creep resistance for the entire load path of the thread to prevent loosening and maintain a durable tightly threaded connection.

The two main categories of plastics suitable for Threaded Insert installation are thermosets and thermoplastics. Thermoset plastics, once formed, undergo an irreversible chemical change and cannot be reformed using heat and pressure. These plastics are tough and heat-resistant. Examples of thermosets are Bakelite, epoxies, urea and polyester resins. Heat/ Ultrasonic Inserts are not suitable for thermosets since this type of plastic can not be reformed. Thermoset plastics require the use of Molded-In, Press-In, or Self-Tapping Inserts.

    Self Tapping Inserts

Series 10 Thread Forming — Self-Tapping Inserts are versatile. They can be used in more plastics, including thermoset plastics, while providing the highest, most consistent pullout strength.

    Press-In Inserts

Series 50 Symmetrical and Series 51 Headed — Press-In Inserts are designed to be pressed into a plastic hole without melting the plastic prior to installation. They offer rapid installation with no specialized equipment and achieve good overall joint performance.

    Molded-In Inserts

Series 65 Blind End and Series 63 Through-Hole — Molded-In Inserts are designed for maximum pull-out and torque performance, and are often the Insert of choice for thermosets and engineered plastics with a high percentage of filler.  The minor thread diameter tolerance is controlled to ensure positive positioning and perpendicularity of the Insert on the core pin during the molding process.  Series 63 is symmetrical eliminating orientation.  Series 65 is the same body style in a blind ended version.

  • Slotted Spring Pins
SPIROL’s Slotted Spring Pin offering consists of SPIROL Standard Metric and Inch that have a slot width narrower than the wall thickness and thus do not nest or interlock and Slotted Pins per ISO 8752. While SPIROL manufactures ISO 8752 Slotted Pins....

  • Slotted Spring Pins are general purpose low cost components used in numerous fastening applications. The most appropriate applications for Slotted Pins are in non-critical assemblies manufactured out of mild to hardened steel that are manually assembled. Compressed as it is installed, the pin applies continuous pressure towards the sides of the hole wall. Unlike the Coiled Spring Pin, which radially compresses, the primary spring action of the Slotted Pin is focused on the area opposite the gap with the two halves of the pin compressing, or folding, toward the center of the pin as it is installed. Like all Spring Pins, this allows the Slotted Pin to accommodate wider hole tolerances than rigid Solid Pins, which results in reduced manufacturing costs. SPIROL offers a comprehensive line of commercial (ASME and ISO) and military (MS/NASM and NAS) standard pins ranging in diameters from .062” (1.5mm) to .500” (12mm) in high carbon and stainless steels.

  • Solid Pins
Solid Pins are straight, cylindrical, relatively inflexible press-fit pins. Available with or without a head, they are commonly used to locate components in a fixed position, to maintain alignment, or to act as axles, pivots or hinges....

  • SPIROL’s Knurled Pins and Barbed Pins have raised “ridges” that interact with the host material to retain the pin within the hole. SPIROL’s Press-N-Lok™ Pin has opposing barbs on each end of the pin and is designed to permanently retain two plastic components to each other. Unlike Straight Pins and Ground Dowels that require extremely tight hole tolerances, SPIROL’s Knurled Pins are designed to be used in standard drilled holes to minimize manufacturing costs. Using this approach, SPIROL’s Solid Pins are commonly used to replace expensive machined pins. Cumbersome screws are often replaced with Knurled Pins and Barbed Pins that offer better retention and improved assembly speeds.

SPIROL minimizes cost through standardization of raw material, tooling concepts and production methodology, and investment in state-of-the-art cold heading and secondary processing technology. Our internal production processes are controlled by continuous inprocess monitors and are certified to international standards IATF 16949.

If installation equipment is required, SPIROL also offers a standard comprehensive line of Pin Installation Equipment from manual to fully automatic modules, with or without out fixturing, to support your Solid Pin assembly requirements.

  • Spacers
SPIROL® Series SP100 Standard Wall and SP150 Heavy Wall Metal Spacers replace cut-off tubing, tubes, ferrules, grommets and turned parts....

  • SPIROL tubular Spacers are used as standoffs, distance bushings, sleeves, axles, and pins. They replace more expensive spacing options of cut-off tubing, tubes, ferrules, grommets and turned parts. SPIROL Spacers are formed into closed seam tubes from cold rolled strip. The component cost savings are achieved through:

    • Use of SPIROL’s proprietary, highly flexible and efficient production technology.
    • SPIROL’s roll-formed tubular Spacer design has tolerances that meet typical application requirements for spacing components apart from each other. This prevents unnecessarily close tolerances associated with manufacturing technologies required to produce more expensive alternative products such as cut tubing, machined bushings, etc.

A typical application for a tubular Spacer is to separate two components in an assembly joined by a bolt, rivet or rod passed through the inside diameter of the Spacer. The inside diameter of the Spacer is designed for a clearance fit over the bolt.

While SPIROL offers distinct diameter and length combinations in the product catalog, intermediate lengths can often be produced quickly, without any special tooling due to SPIROL's proprietary manufacturing process.

SPIROL's standard range of roll formed tubular Spacers includes both metric and inch specifications in a variety of diameters and lengths. Most standard diameters are available in two wall thickness options, standard wall and heavy wall, to accommodate specific application strength and bearing requirements.

  • Vibratory Feed Systems
